ABOUT SEBENE

Sebene was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and raised in Washington, D.C. Even as a young person, Sebene was drawn to explore the connections between creativity, community, and contemplative life and has been studying Buddhism for over 25 years and continues to train with primary teachers, Thanissara and Kittisaro. Sebene is passionate about making these teachings accessible and relevant for our times and teaches regularly in New York City and nationally.

ABOUT MAKE SPACE

Social change starts with you. I invite you to bring your social, cultural and political experiences with you when they feel relevant to your growth; all aspects of your identities and lived realities are welcome. In fact, I think understanding these forces in our lives are essential to our growth. As a coach and meditation teacher, I bring a deep awareness of issues related to class, race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and other impacts of dominant culture on our well-being. Whether you are an artist, activist, student, teacher, healer, business owner, parent… I invite you to bring ALL the parts of yourself to your process of transformation:
* your mind, body, emotions, and spirit
* your creativity, culture(s), politics, and passions
* your wonder and curiosity as well as your doubt and skepticism

WORDS OF WISDOM

WHAT DOES WELL-BEING MEAN TO YOU?

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THIS WORK?

Rumi said “through love all pain will turn to medicine.” I believe the strongest medicine for ourselves and our communities is the self–care we often neglect.
